Obituary of Severne Ann Caster

Severne Ann Chase Caster, 73, of Jamestown, NY died Friday, July 22, 2011 at home in the arms of her loving family. She was born at home in Hebron, ND on December 29, 1937. Here her parents Herbert and Anna Schiermeister Chase raised their family of seven children. Severne graduated from Cheyenne River Academy in North Dakota. She later studied business administration at Walla Walla University in Washington State. She met her husband Gordon following college while working for the Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, DC. Jamestown became their home in 1966. Severne enjoyed working as bookkeeper at the Lakewood Memorial Library near Jamestown. Her professional endeavors culminated as Chief Financial Officer for Caster Drilling Enterprises, the longtime family business. Severne was a member of the Jamestown Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years. Here she served in many capacities, including Dorcas Society, Home and School Association Director, and Church Treasurer. Healthy cooking, sewing and spending time with friends became her passion. She made many beautiful quilts and was a member of the Chautauqua Sewers' Quilting Guild. Great joy for Severne came in communing with God while cultivating her flowers. But her greatest pleasure was in spending time with and caring for her family. Survivors include Gordon W. Caster, Severne's husband of nearly 52 years; daughter Coleen R. Caster of Nahant, MA; and sons Pernell L. (Cathy) Caster of Frewsburg, and Trent G. (Susan) Caster of Ashville. Severne was 'Nana' (grandmother) to Jonas (8 years) and Grady (2 years) Caster, with a third grandchild (a girl) due in August. Also surviving are three sisters, Dorothy (Tom) Massengill of Ocala, FL, Ora Mae (Charles) Klein of Denver, CO and Eldonna (Richard) Hilde of Statesboro, GA. In addition is her surviving brother Jerry (Pam) Chase of Hebron, ND. Severne was preceded in death by two brothers, Monroe and Robert Chase. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Jamestown Seventh Day Adventist Church, 130 McDaniel Ave. Pastor Samuel Indreiu will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg, NY. Guests will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 24th in the Lind Funeral Home.
