Obituary of Joanne M. Nazzaro

Joanne M. Nazzaro, 76, of 612 W. Sixth St Jamestown, died at 4:40 AM Friday (August 5, 2011) in her home. A lifelong area resident, she was born June 17, 1935 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Fagan Nazzaro. Joanne was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School and earned her B.S. and Master's degrees from the State University of Fredonia. She taught school at the former St. James and Ss Peter and Paul Schools. Joanne was a member of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Church. She also attended Sacred Heart Church in Lakewood. Joanne was very devoted to her faith. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, shopping, dining out, and watching ice skating. She is survived by her half brother Thomas Nazzaro; her half sisters Kathy Hitchcock and Maryanne Nazzaro; her cousins in Jamestown who were concerned for her welfare, Samuel Colera, Carol Gullo, Diane Calamunci, Linda Calimeri, Geraldine Gerardi, Maryanne Dietrick, Rose Mary Lombardo, Charles (Susan) Masters of Panama; Richard (Joan) Masters of Albany, NY; C. Edward Fagan of Findley Lake; Marilyn Gruel of Lakewood; Michael, Leigh, Eileen, and Terry Fagan all of WI; Steven and Larry Fagan, Marlene Taylor, all of CA; and Elizabeth Fuson. Also, caregivers, Angel Rodriguez, and the staff of Angel and Home Care. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step mother, Mary Nazzaro; her grandparents, Anthony and Anna Nazzaro, Lawrence and Clara Fagan; her beloved sister Frances Nazzaro whom Joanne Cherished; her aunts, Anna Fagan who raised her; Ada and Barbara Fagan with whom she made her home; Pauline Masters; Uncle, Louis Fagan; and her cousin, Patricia Fagan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday at Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor and Msgr Joseph M. Dowdell, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will concelebrate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake service will be led by Msgr Dowdell at 3:45 PM Sunday.
