Obituary of Roger L Healey

Roger L. Healey, 77, of 250 Schuyler St. Jamestown, formerly of 3653 Panama-Stedman Rd. Mayville, NY went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 9:25 a.m. Saturday (September 3, 2011) surrounded by his family at 40 Evans St. Mayville, NY. A lifelong area resident he was born September 18, 1933 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Edwin L. and Evelyn E. Baxell Healey. He was a 1951 graduate of Panama Central School and attended Jamestown Community College. He also a attended the John Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. Before his retirement in 1998, he was employed as a skills trade tool designer for Cummins Engine Company where he worked for 22 years. Following his retirement he was the Pastor of the North Harmony United Methodist Church for 8 years. The past several years he worked at the Chautauqua Golf Club, a job he really enjoyed during retirement. In previous years he also worked for the Boy Scouts of America at Camp Merz, was a janitor and bus driver for Chautauqua Central School, a former agent for Prudential Insurance Company, was a clerk for Sears Department Store and also worked for the former Automatic Voting Machine. He was also a self employed contractor working many jobs throughout Chautauqua County. He was a member of the Open Meadows United Methodist Church, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Herman Kent Post 777, American Legion, North Harmony Senior Citizens, National rifle Association, was a past officer for the Experimental Aircraft Association and a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter Q. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved hunting, flying and being outdoors. As an avid hunter he was an instructor for the New York State Hunter Safety Course, for 15 years. Surviving are his wife the former Barbara Cave, three daughters Tambra Juel of Lakewood, Robin Healey of Panama, Kimber Buck of Kennedy, five step children Michael Weary of Mayville, Dale Weary of Sherman, Timothy Weary of Bemus Point, Laurie Gilbert of Dewittville, Tracy Kelly of Sinclairville, 21 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Gail Johnson and a sister Trudy Johnson. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Lee O'Brien, pastor of the Busti Federated Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Open Meadows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
