Obituary of Armand E. Daversa

Armand E. "Chico" Daversa, 79, of 3955 Dry Brook Rd., Falconer, NY, died Tuesday (September 6, 2011) in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at Hamot, Erie, PA. A lifelong area resident he was born June 6, 1932 in Jamestown, NY the son of the late Carmen and Jeanette DePietro Daversa. He was a 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1971 graduate of Jamestown Community College. He also attended Fredonia State College and Buffalo State College. Mr. Daversa was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War, where he was a lead combat medic with the 25th Infantry. During his tour of duty he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the New York State Conspicuous Star as well as the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Combat Medical Badge. Before his retirement he was employed as a detective with the Jamestown Police Department. He served in several departments and was well known as a detective in the Juvenile Bureau for many years. He also worked for Pri-Det Security Service where he was captain of the security guards and also worked for Southern Tier Environment for the Living as a Client Counselor. In earlier years "Chico" was very active in community affairs. He was confirmed and baptized from St. John Catholic Church and was currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood. He was a member of the Jamestown Kendall Club where he held various positions within the Kendall Club Union and served as a retired representative. He was also a member of the Jamestown Musicians Union Local 34, War Vets Recreation Club, Herman Kent Post 777, American Legion, John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Jamestown Boys Club, the Y.M.C.A., a life member of the Disabled American Veteran Organization, a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Jamestown Elks Lodge. He was also a faithful community servant where he was past president of the Jamestown Area Jaycees, past commissioner of the Jamestown Midget Football League in 1966, was past president of the Gowanda Psychiatric Center and was past president and board member for the Jamestown Housing Authority, where he served from 1990- 2000. He was appointed by the County Executive to serve on the Chautauqua County Youth Board and was an accomplished musician where he played drums for many local Western New York bands and clubs. He also played for the Glen Miller Band, the Army Drum Corp. and the Jamestown Municipal Band. He was a recipient of the "Man of the year Award" by the National Conference of Christian and Jews and received the Tom Trusso Award in 1993. Chico was a strong advocate for youth and senior citizen activities. Surviving are four sons David (Darlene) Daversa, Randall (Jackie) Daversa both of Jamestown, Jeffrey (Lisa) Daversa, with whom he made his home, Gregg (Nicole) Daversa of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, eight grandchildren, Kristen (Joe)Marecic of Horseheads, NY, Kara (Aaron) Emley of Jamestown, Kendra (Chad) Fitzpatrick of Jamestown, Amie (Brandon) Ball of Princeton, W.VA, Carlee Daversa of Jamestown, Michael Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Casey Daversa and Nolan Daversa of Rancho Santa Margarita, seven great grandchildren Lexus, Adam, Austin, Aidan, Ryan, Jacob and Ava and two sisters Diane L. Edwards of Saratoga Springs, NY, Elaine C. McMahon of Webster, NY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Barbara J. Larson Daversa whom he married September 10, 1955 and who died September 27, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood. Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell, pastor will be celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led by Msgr. Dowdell at 1:45p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
