Obituary of S. Larry Erickson

Stein Lawrence "S. Larry" Erickson, 89, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday September 27, 2011 from the home he lovingly designed and personally constructed. He was born to Stein A. and Lillie Loberg Erickson on October 9, 1921, in Jamestown. He was educated in Jamestown Public Schools and was employed by Jamestown Metal Corporation from 1938 to 1987. He initially worked as "Blueprint Boy" and worked his way up to the engineering department. He served in the US Navy for three and a half years aboard the USS Bataan during World War II as an airplane mechanic. He was very active in the ministries of Chandler Street Baptist Church, serving as Song Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible Teacher, Youth Leader, Deacon and Choir Member. He remained active as Chandler Street Baptist Church transitioned to Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was a founding member of the "Homebuilders" Sunday School Class. More recently, he was an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church and enjoyed assisting with Worship services on the campus of Heritage Village, Gerry, NY where he maintained his own apartment from November of 2009 until three months ago when his debilitating illness necessitated his return to the family home and care of his daughter. He was the beloved husband of the former Joyce E. Swanson from March 1, 1947 until her death on December 10, 2010. Together they raised two daughters Marilyn (Daniel) Beckstrom of Pittsburgh, PA and Shirley (Daniel) Swenson of Jamestown, NY. He is also survived by five grandchildren Rev. Kristin (Michael) Beckstrom Widrich of Charleston, SC, Daniel (Rebecca) Beckstrom of Weyers Cave, VA, Rev. Michael (Rachel) Beckstrom of Pittsburgh, PA, Erica Swenson of Nashville, TN and John Swenson of Jamestown, NY; two great grandsons Josiah and Jeremiah Beckstrom both of Weyers Cave, VA and two brothers Einard (Reva) Erickson of Orlando, FL and Ernest (Doris) Erickson of Jamestown. Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a brother Gunnard Erickson and an infant grandson Eric Daniel Swenson. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel W. Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
