Obituary of Doris Marguerite Kohlbacher

Doris Marguerite Kohlbacher, 90, of 1615 Sigmon Rd., Roanoke, Virginia, formerly of Jamestown, died Monday, October 10, 2011 in WCA Hospital. A resident of Virginia since 1973, she was born February 22, 1921 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late D. Lawrence and Burness Olson Carlson. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1939 and received a BA in Sociology from Smith College in 1943. Doris had been a member of First Baptist Church in Jamestown and belonged to the Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and the YWCA Investment Board in Roanoke and was an avid bridge player. Surviving are three daughters: Mary Lively of Northborough, MA, Sally (Tom) Oliver of Flowery Branch, GA and Dona (Mark) Crotts of Fountain Hills, AZ; six grandchildren: Katy (Chad) Hutcheson of Belmont, NC, Jonathan (Veronica) Oliver and Caroline (Micah) Lawson, both of Flowery Branch, David (Antigoni) Lively of Florence, MA, Michael Lively of Northborough and Daniel Crotts of Mesa, AZ; four great-grandchildren: Adeleigh Hutcheson, Will and Isabelle Oliver and Dionysus Lively; a twin sister, Dona White of Jamestown and her family Ann Roe of Nevada, John White of Albany, NY and Robert White of Bemus Point; a sister-in-law, Margit Kohlbacher of California, formerly of Jamestown and her family Susie Malijewski and Steve and John Kohlbacher, all of California; as well as a cousin, Samuel (Gretchen) Alessi Jr. of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon B. Kohlbacher whom she married April 7, 1944 in San Francisco and who died February 2, 1995; a son-in-law, W. David Lively and brothers-in-law, Dr. Herbert A. White, Jr. and M. George Kohlbacher. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13th in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Jennifer Delahoy will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, 402 Second St. SW, Roanoke, VA 24007; or to a charity of choice. Doris' family would like to extend their appreciation to the WCA staff for their caring and respectful help during her illness.
