Obituary of Edward A. Doolittle

Edward A. Doolittle, 95, formerly of 303 West Fifth St. and Maple Grove Rd. Bemus Point, NY passed away at 4:04 a.m. Thursday (October 13, 2011) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A resident of Jamestown since 1937, he was born May 22, 1916 in Clymer, NY the son of the late Arthur and Lauretta Hurst Doolittle. In 1937 Ed rode into Jamestown on an Indian Scout and continued to ride Harley Davidson's until he was 87 years old. He started working as a mechanic for the former New Eagle Motors in 1937 and later became self employed and was well known as the best "tune up" carburetor specialist in the area. There wasn't an engine or machine that Ed couldn't fix. He was an active member of the Jamestown YMCA for 30 years and worked out regularly until January of this year. He was a past member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the AARP bowling and golf leagues. Surviving are a son Edward A. Doolittle, Jr. of Pasadena, MD, four daughters Carol Doolittle of Jamestown, NY, Judy Johnson of Lancaster, PA, Mary Pezzanite of Getzville, NY, Wendy Doolittle of Jamestown, NY, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son David Doolittle in 1969, a daughter Donna Robinson in 1995 and two brothers Milton and Howard Doolittle. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Clyde Mohl, pastor of the Lakeside Bible Chapel, Bemus Point will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
