Obituary of Bernice H Swanson

Bernice H. Swanson, 93, of 165 Aldren Ave. formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (November 12, 2011) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 4, 1918 in Kane, PA a daughter of the late Godfrey L. and Florence M. Foust Benson. Bernice was a 1936 graduate of the Frewsburg High School. While living in Iowa for 40 years she had been employed by the Armstrong's Department Store for 16 years. In her early years she worked for the former Gretchen's Kitchen. She was a member of the Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids for many years and enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States. Surviving is a brother Donald E. Benson of San Jose, CA and several nieces and nephews including Randy (Tina) Olson of Jamestown who were her caregivers for several years. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Marshall A. Swanson whom she married July 19, 1941 and who died January 23, 1994 and two sisters Marguerite Mealey, Alice Benson. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Lake View Cemetery. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center will officiate.
