Obituary of Virginia M. Lynn

Virginia M. Lynn, 88, of 2323 Edinboro Rd. Erie, PA, formerly of Lakeland, FL and Lakewood, NY, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday (November 16, 2011) in the Forest View Nursing Home on the Springhill Campus. An Erie, PA resident for the past several years and a former Lakewood, NY resident for 49 years, she was born January 21, 1923 in Des Moines, IA a daughter of the late Charles and Nelle Kinsey Winberg. She was a graduate of the Garfield High School in Akron, OH and also graduated from the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing. She served for a short time in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp during World War II. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Erie, PA. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid reader, bridge player and also loved golfing and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed the companionship of her loving dogs. The family enjoyed many vacations, including two dude ranch trips, visits to most all the National Parks, skiing in Vermont and Florida vacations as well as the mule ride down Grand Canyon. Ginny and Dick enjoyed several trips with the Barbershoppers to Sweden and Norway and Australia and New Zealand as well as trips to Alaska and Europe Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Dr. Richard M. Lynn, whom she married June 11, 1949, two sons Richard M. (Joanne) Lynn, Jr. of Cornwall CT, Donald E. Lynn of Erie, PA, two daughters Nancy J. (Leonard) Lightfoot of Burbank, CA, Janet K. (John) Blakeslee of Erie, PA, seven grandchildren Jason, Brian and Olivia Lynn, Christopher Lightfoot, Jennifer Calabretta, Sarah Castillo, John Blakeslee and two great grandchildren Dante and Cabrini Calabretta. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two great grandchildren Mateo and Sofia Calabretta, a brother C.K. Winberg and a sister Betty Koch. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (November 20, 2011) in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 West Third St. Jamestown, NY. The Rev. Terry Shaughnessy, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Erie, PA and Rev. Howard Wright, retired pastor will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St. Erie, PA 16509 or to the First United Methodist Church of Erie, 707 Sassafras St. Erie, PA 16501
