Obituary of Harland L. "Marty" Martin

Harland L. "Marty" Martin, 74, of 5860 Harris Grove Lane in Charlotte, NC, formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 in Charlotte. He was born May 15, 1937 in Jamestown, the son of the late Darlene Martin Peterson and the late Victor Martin. Marty graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955 and served in the Naval Reserves from 1955 until 1963. He had been employed by MRC/TRW in Jamestown for over 35 years, retiring as a time keeper in 1998. He relocated to Charlotte, NC in September of 2005. Marty was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his great love of music. Surviving is a sister, Beverly Solinger of Jamestown; nieces Lori Barrett-Wigington and Cindy Ferraro of Jamestown; a great nephew Shane Barrett and great nieces Chelsea Barrett of New York City, Melissa Ferraro of Charlotte, NC and Jordan Ferraro of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his mother in June of 2010; his father in 1937 and his step-father, Harold Peterson in 1963; an infant daughter in 1965; and a nephew, Gregory Solinger in 1980. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Falconer. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Thursday.
