Obituary of James G. Deppas

James G. Deppas, 50, of 145 Chandler St. passed away unexpectedly at 8:01 p.m. Thursday (December 22, 2011) in the emergency room of W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident he was born March 11, 1961 in Jamestown a son of the late Anthony L. "Dony" and Dominica "Dolly" Mazzone Deppas. Jim was a 1979 graduate of Jamestown High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in accounting from St. Bonaventure University in 1983. He began his professional career as an accountant for the firm of Bergmark, Butera and Bird in Newark, NY. In 1988 he became the Controller and Chief Financial Officer for W.C.A. Hospital until 2000. He had later worked for the Millcreek Hospital and Metro Hospital both in Erie, PA. He was a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and was active with the Chautauqua Region Multiple Sclerosis Society, where he served as Treasurer from 1995-1998. He was also a board member and Treasurer of the American Red Cross from 1997-2001 and a member of the Mt. Moriah Lodge 145 Free and Accepted Masons for over 10 years. Prior to his illness, he was an avid golfer, runner and softball player. He also coached his children in the Jamestown Area Youth Soccer League. He was a loving and caring father and brother who loved to "Go East" for a good game of poker with his family and friends. He also had a love for music that he always shared with his kids as they were growing up. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family by whom he will be deeply missed. Jim will always be remembered as a man with wit and a great sense of humor. He took everything in stride and even through hardships, he always found a reason to laugh about it, or crack a joke. His family will always remember his strength and courage during his illness. Surviving are his three children Rachel M. (Tim Anderson) Deppas, Ryan A. Deppas, Gregory J. Deppas, two brothers Louis A. (Melissa) Deppas, John D. (Megan) Deppas all of Jamestown and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father who died February 17, 2005 and his mother who died April 3, 2011. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. George S. Zervos, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be led by Rev. Zervos at 7:00 p.m. Monday.
