Obituary of Jessie Conti

Jessie G. Riggi Conti, 100, of 3405 Brown St. Jamestown passed away at 8:50 p.m. Friday (December 23, 2011) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A long time resident of the Jamestown area, she was born July 19, 1911 in Niagara Falls, NY a daughter of the late Benjamin and Rose Simone Riggi. In earlier years she helped her father at the family grocery store in Niagara Falls. Following her marriage and consequent move to Jamestown, she and her husband owned and operated a fruit and produce business, the Iroquois Beer Distributorship and later the Fairmount Liquor Store. In previous years she was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Ladies of the Moose Auxiliary. Jessie loved her family, cooking, socializing and her favorite chihuahua's Pedro, Piper and Deja. She was an avid bowler and bowled in several bowling leagues over the years. She also enjoyed fishing, bird watching, playing bingo with friends and in later years "watching the lake". She had a mischievous sense of humor and a wonderful smile that would light up a room. Surviving is a daughter Rose Marie (Phil) Pilato of Jamestown, five grandchildren Anthony (Connie) Pilato, Michael (Jodi) Pilato, Ann Atwell, Toni Luparello, Dana Luparello, two great grandchildren Jesse Atwell, Lucas Atwell all of Jamestown. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews as well as great great nieces and great great nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Antonio "Tony" Conti who died December 8, 1988, a daughter Josephine Luparello who died May 5, 2002, two sister's Felicia "Katie" Sheusi, Marion Felice and two brother's Michael Riggi and John Riggi. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. John L. Kuhlmann will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Fluvanna Fire Department, Fluvanna Ave Ext.
