Obituary of Irving T. "Irv" Nelson

Irving T. "Irv" Nelson, 86, formerly of 1974 Buffalo St. Ext. (P.O. Box 187, Jamestown 14702), passed away at 12:35 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 12, 1925 in Jamestown, a son of the late Carl and Clara Brooks Nelson, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1943. A 30 year employee of the Blackstone Corporation, Irv served as sales manager of the Appliance Division. He retired in 1988 after 11 years as sales manager of Falconer Glass Industries. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and an active member for many years. In more recent years, Irv belonged to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was again active on numerous committees. He had also served as a Lay Minister for various area Lutheran churches for many years, particularly the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley, PA. He was a member and past president of the Falconer Rotary, as well as past chairman of the Town of Ellicott Zoning Board. Irv is survived by his wife, Gloria Carlson Nelson, whom he married September 6, 1947 in First Lutheran Church; two sons, J. Randall (Dawn) Nelson of Webster, NY and Mark I. (Ruth) Nelson of Russell, PA; five grandchildren: Dr. Ryan C. (Carrie) Nelson of Brighton, NY, Lindsay R. (Chris) Kidder of Baldwinsville, NY, Jeffrey D. Nelson of Warren, Tobin M. (Sarah) Nelson and Zachary R. Nelson, both of Pittsburgh, PA; four great-grandchildren: Avery and Audrey Nelson, Jackson Kidder and Elyse Nelson; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Nelson of Frewsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Ann Nelson; his step-mother, Lillian Rose Nelson; a brother, Vincent Nelson; a sister and brother-in-law, Clarine and Arnold Fray; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and June Carlson. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Alison L. Leitzel and the Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 825 Forest Ave., Immanuel Lutheran Church, 556 E. Second St., or the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center, 715 Falconer St., all Jamestown, NY 14701.
