Obituary of Salvatore J. Buttafaro

Salvatore J. "Sam" Buttafaro, 93, of 46 Walnut St. Jamestown passed away at 3:00 a.m. Sunday (January 1, 2012) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident he was born September 25, 1918 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Thomas and Anna Calanni Buttafaro. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving from 1942 to 1945 during World War II and was one of the oldest World War II veterans in Chautauqua County. Before his retirement in 1980, he was employed by Scalise Construction Company for 31 years and also was a bartender for the former Galati's Restaurant for 20 years. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 926, the John W. Tiffany Post 53 Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion, Falconer. He will be remembered as a loving, caring and protective father and grandfather whose favorite pastime was being involved in his grandchildren's lives. He was always there to help raise them and would attend all of their sporting events. Surviving are a daughter Ann Marie (James) Webber of Dunkirk, NY, a Daughter in Law, Michelle Buttafaro of Jamestown, four grandchildren Melissa M., Andrew T. and Kaitlyn A. Buttafaro all of Jamestown, Joshua T. Webber of Dunkirk, a brother Anthony Buttafaro and a sister Frances Paterniti both of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Belle L. Barber Buttafaro whom he married April 1, 1957 and who died December 6, 1990, a son Thomas A. Buttafaro who died July 29, 2002, a brother Frank Buttafarro and a sister Mary Beswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thomas A.
