Obituary of Catherine Y. Corkery

Catherine Y. "Kay" Corkery of 3421 Caughey Rd., Erie PA, formerly of Jamestown, died at home Tuesday January 3rd, 2012 after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. A native of Jamestown, she was born April 10th 1937, a daughter of Lemier Alphonse Benoit and Mary E. "Bessie" McAvoy Benoit. She was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1958 Graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, Buffalo NY. As a Registered Nurse for over 40 years, Kay worked at many hospitals including Mercy Hospital, Buffalo NY; The Rusk Institute of Spinal Rehabilitation; New York, NY, and WCA Hospital; Jamestown NY, retiring from there as Nursing Supervisor in 1999. Kay enjoyed travelling, gardening, bird watching, attending the annual Mercy girls reunion, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the many family pets over the years, including her most recent and special canine companion, Bandit. Kay will always be remembered by those who knew her as loving, compassionate, optimistic and easy-going. Surviving are three children Karry Y. (Don) Camp of Erie, PA, Todd E. Corkery of Jamestown and Kevin L. (Sarah) Corkery of West Oneonta, NY and twelve grandchildren Dylan C. Camp and Megan C. Camp of Erie, PA, Toby J. Corkery, Shane E. Corkery, Jared M. Corkery of Olean, Maren O. Corkery, Colette E. Corkery Grace M. Corkery, Karoline R. Corkery, Frances C. Corkery, Seamus Corkery and Sean Corkery all of West Oneonta; a sister Sister Joan Benoit, Sisters of Mercy, Buffalo, NY; a brother Richard (Joann) Benoit of Gainesville, FL as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Gerald J. "Jerry" Corkery whom she married June 19, 1965, and who died January 15, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
