Obituary of Bonnie E. Youngren

Bonnie E. Youngren, 85, formerly of Buffalo St. Ext. passed away at 4:05 a.m. Friday (January 20, 2012) in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. An area resident for most of her life she was born October 27, 1926 in Red Lodge, MT a daughter of the late Uno Abram Toffer and Jennie Marie Bloom Toffer. She was a 1944 graduate of the Pendleton High School in Pendleton, OR. During her working career Bonnie had served as the Executive Director of the Jamestown Girls Club, the Program Director for the Jamestown YWCA, the Activities Director for the Frewsburg Rest Home, a member of the field staff for the Chautauqua County Girl Scouts and was the Day Camp Supervisor for the YWCA Day Camp. In earlier years she was a very active volunteer in the Jamestown community serving as past president of the C.E. Smith School Parent Teacher Association, Chairman of the volunteers' for the Chautauqua County Chapter of the American Red Cross where she also taught water safety and was a first aid instructor. She served as a board member for the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, the Jamestown YWCA and was a council member for the United Way Planning Council. She served as a troop leader, board member, committee chairman and was a troop service team member for the Chautauqua Area Girl Scout Council. She was awarded the Girls Scouts Thanks Badge for her faithful service over the years. Her other awards were the Kiwanis Club Frank Smeragliulo Service to Youth Award, the United Way Planning Council Gold Award, the YWCA Presidents Award and in 1998 was presented the Chautauqua County Woman of Achievement Award. Surviving are a son David A. (Margaret) Youngren of Jamestown, a daughter Patti A. (Tim) Farrell of Camden, SC, two grandchildren Kirsten Youngren of Rockville, MD, Jason Farrell of Camden, SC and a brother Marvin E. Toffer of Spokane, WA. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Youngren whom she married September 12, 1945 and who died September 17, 2003. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
