Obituary of Shirley M. Slagle

Shirley M. Slagle, 83, of the Luther Home and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 63 Frederick Boulevard, West Ellicott, died Monday February 6, 2012, in WCA Hospital. She was born July 3, 1928, in Lakewood, a daughter of Hardy and Ada Ackerman Coones. She attended Chautauqua Schools and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Willing to try any new thing, she enjoyed camping, children, dogs and baking. She loved making new friends, which she did very easily. Surviving are four children Christine (Steve) Smouse of Lakewood, Jack (Lori) Slagle of Jamestown, Jon (Cindy) Slagle of Frewsburg and Harold Slagle of Jamestown; 14 grandchildren Jill (Billy) Pavlock, Jacqueline (Tom) Summerville, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Slagle, Janelle (Chad) Swan and Justin, Sara, Gregory, Bradley, Victoria, Kayla, Lidia, Jake, Ben and Max Slagle; 11 great grandchildren and a sister Mary Nordine of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold M. Slagle, who died December 31, 1992, three brothers Owen Burr, James and Eugene Coones, a sister Oneida Hamilton and long time companion Kermit Johnson. The funeral will be held at 11:30 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and for one hour prior to the service Friday in the funeral home.
