Obituary of Stuart K. Baldwin

Stuart Kennedy Baldwin, 86, formerly of Hultquist Place passed away at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday February 21, 2012 in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident he was born October 25, 1925 in Tidioute, PA the son of the late Russell S. and Bertella Trantum Baldwin. He was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School He graduated from the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy ( Albright Art School) in 1948 and received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Buffalo in 1950. Stuart was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served for six years and also served for many years with Company E, Naval Reserve here in Jamestown. Before his retirement he had worked as a technical artist for the former Marlin Rockwell Corporation for 25 years. He also owned and operated the Stuart K. Baldwin Advertising Agency, from his home, for 45 years, and was an advertising manager for the former Pitts Home and Garden Store. Stuart was a member of the First Covenant Church and the Chautauqua County Society of Artists. As a fine artist he became well known for his paintings of western New York rural landscapes and old barns. He had a keen interest in antique cars and automotive design. He also had a love of classical music and played bass violin in the Jamestown Civic Orchestra and symphony orchestras in Warren, PA and Buffalo, NY. He will be remembered as a commercial and fine artist, as a musician and musical composer. His empathy for the aged often found him playing music in retirement homes throughout the area. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years the former Mary Ann Herman whom he married September 13, 1952, a daughter Beth (John) McCanna, a son Mark K. (Ardith) Baldwin both of Jamestown, four granddaughters Heather McCanna (Greg) Carlson of Sackets Harbor, NY, Rebecca E. McCanna of Philadelphia, PA, Kristin E. Baldwin of Stockholm, Sweden, Kelly L. Baldwin of Jamestown, 2 twin great grandchildren John and Leala Carlson of Sackets Harbor and a sister Martha H. (James) Everhart of Jamestown. Besides his parent she was preceded in death by a nephew Laurence S. Martin. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of Lutheran Retirement Home and Mr. David B. Larson, retired Director of Visitation for First Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
