Obituary of Myrtle E. Fardink

Myrtle E. Fardink, 96, formerly of 4820 Ashville Bay Road in Ashville, died Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of John A. Fardink, Sr., her "Dutchman" whom she married February 24, 1934 and who died after 70 years of marriage on November 20, 2004. Myrtle was born July 5, 1915 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Guy and Emma Carlson Whiting, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1933. She had been employed by Sears in Lakewood for 13 years, retiring in 1978, and in earlier years worked as a cook in several area locations. Myrtle enjoyed knitting and crocheting, having made an afghan for all of her family and friends, and belonged to the Stitch & Chatter Women's Club. She loved time with her family and the picnics they shared. In recent years, she looked forward to dinners and spending time with her great-grandchildren, Tara, Derek, Kyle and Ryan. She would always enjoy recalling her trip to Germany with family and friends. She is survived by her son, James (Janice) Fardink and daughter, Alice (Eugene) Hulings, both of Ashville; seven grandchildren: Terry Lair of Jamestown, Jeff (Mary) Fardink of Ashville, Don (Debbie) Woodworth of Panama, Tammy (Doug) Hosier of Ashville, Todd Hulings of Blackstone, VA and Teresa (Scott) Puder and Earl Hulings, both of Jamestown; two step-grandchildren, Donette Bennink and April Graczyk; nine great-grandchildren and four great- great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Myrtle was preceded in death by a son, John A. 'Jack' Fardink, Jr. in 1994; a daughter, Betty Card in 2004; a brother, Marion Whiting; and two sisters, Alyce Mitchell and Jean Munson. The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Tuesday. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
