Obituary of Ashley Julia Sandau

Ashley Julia Sandau, 24, of Bitburg Germany, passed away Friday, March 30th 2012, in Los Angeles, CA, as a result of a car striking her as she was crossing a busy intersection. She was born March 19, 1988, in Amory, MS, the daughter of Mary "Liz" Harte and Shelly Sandau. Ashley was a 2006 graduate and Salutatorian of Bitburg High School and a 2011 graduate of St. Bonaventure University where she earned an Honors Bachelor Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication and a Masters Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. She won an award for Outstanding Student in her undergraduate journalism program. She was employed as a Marketing Coordinator for United Consortium in Los Angeles. An avid runner and captain of her college cross country team, Ashley was also captain of her high school swim team, and played soccer throughout high school. Having lived in Europe and Asia while growing up, traveling and exploring new cultures influenced who she was. She was dearly loved by her family, many friends, and her beloved cats. Ashley was a pure soul and everyone who knew her was affected by her positive influence. In addition to her parents, Ashley is survived by her half-brother, Matthew Sandau of Longmont, CO; her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Dorothy Harte of Lakewood; maternal aunts and uncles, Chris and Eileen Harte Carlson of Jamestown, (cousins Brendan & Aaron Carlson) Vov and Sheila Harte Dmitriev, of Lakewood, (cousins Aidan & Declan Dmitriev) Chris Harte, (cousins Logan, Brian & Lydia Harte) of Richmond, VA; and Nancy Harte of Jamestown. She is also survived by paternal uncles and aunts Larry & Cherry Buffington, Lori & Dean McConnell, Sherry Lindquist, Sheila & Bill Biehl, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Alice Sandau Buffington, her paternal grandfather, Adolph Sandau, Aunt Shar McDonald, Uncles Steve & Alan Sandau. On Monday, April 9th visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and a Celebration of Ashley's Life will be held at 7 p.m. at the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. 3rd St., Jamestown. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 10th at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 380 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring St., Jamestown, NY 14701 to the Ashley Julia Sandau Scholarship Fund.
