Obituary of Dorothy E. Swanson

Dorothy E. Swanson, 92, formerly of Jamestown passed away at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in Absolut Care of Westfield, Westfield, NY. A lifelong area resident she was born December 21, 1919 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Paul William and Lillian Crossley Engstrom. Before her retirement in 1975, she had been employed as a Librarian and a Teacher's Aide by the former Fluvanna Elementary School for 10 years. In earlier years she had worked for the Crawford Furniture Company from 1941-1948 and again from 1967-1968 and also the former Nelsons Department Store from 1937-1941. She was a member of the Fluvanna Community Church, a life member of the Fluvanna Fire Department Auxiliary, the Ellery Senior Citizens, the Fredonia Club Group and her special "Club Girls" group. Surviving are two sons Bruce L. (Cynthia) Swanson of Round Hill, VA, Todd W. (Lois) Swanson of Westfield, NY, a daughter Dale J. (Larry) Ledgerwood of Geneva, NY, five grandchildren Joseph B. (Therese) Swanson of Brambleton, VA, Kimberly L. (Mark) Stout of Berryville, VA, Chandra L. (Jason) Wiegle of Wellsboro, PA, Amy L. Ledgerwood of Rochester, NY, Adam D. Ledgerwood of Cortland, NY and three great grandchildren Logan Swanson, Kailyn Swanson, Silas Wiegle. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband LaVerne O. Swanson whom she married October 2, 1946, they were the first couple married in the new chapel of the Dunkirk First Methodist Church, and who died August 16, 1990, a brother Paul N. Engstrom and a sister Jeannette Dix. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Monday in the funeral home.
