Obituary of Alberta G. Johnson

Alberta G. Phillips Johnson, 95, of the Frewsburg Rest Home, formerly of 60 Lovall Ave. Jamestown, passed away Friday (May 4, 2012) in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. An area resident for most of her life she was born August 20, 1916 in the Town of Conewango, NY, a daughter of the late Ray H. and Carrie B. Wolcott Phillips. She was a graduate of the former Celoron High School. Before her retirement in 1982, she was employed by the former S.M. Flickinger, Inc. for 24 years. She had earlier worked for the former Nelsons Department Store for 5 years. Alberta was a longtime active member of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church where she was currently the oldest member of the church. She was active in the United Methodist Women, the Dorcas Society and served as church treasurer for several years. She was also a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club Auxiliary. Surviving are two sons LeRoy C. (Trudy) Johnson of Ashville, NY, Ray H. (Rose Marie) Johnson of Falconer, NY, a son in law Donald Nyquist of Crossville, TN, nine grandchildren Gregg Johnson of Jamestown, Burton Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA, Sonya Orr of Pittsburgh, PA, Ray C. Johnson of Westport, CT, Daniel Nyquist of Rochester, NY, Rochelle Wright of Fayetteville, GA, Renee Hartling of Falconer, Cynthia Pera of Ontario, NY, Karen Sheen of Rochester, 20 great grandchildren and a sister Leola Hallquist of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence H. Johnson whom she married September 23, 1933 and who died January 18, 1998, a daughter Carol E. Nyquist, three brothers Charles, Donald and Lawrence Phillips and two sisters Irene Reed, Muriel Newcomb. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rick LaDue, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, 385 South Main St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
