Obituary of Florence Hinz

Florence Hinz, 97, of 501 Charles St., Jamestown, died at 7:00 p.m. Thursday (May 10, 2012) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 18, 1915 in Canandaigua, NY the daughter of Henry and Edna Hinz. She was a 1932 graduate of Shortsville High School, 1936 graduate of Buffalo State College with a Bachelor's Degree, and received her Master's Degree from Syracuse University in 1941. She taught a total of 40 years, teaching in Manchester, NY, Pleasantville, NY, Hilton, NY, Jamestown, NY, from 1945 to 1976 at Lincoln Junior High and Jamestown High School. She was class advisor for the class of 1964. She enjoyed knitting, embroidery work, cooking, baking, gardening, especially roses. She was a 66 year member of the First Baptist Church and served on the Diaconate, the Board of Christian Education, Pastoral Relations Board, and the Cabinet. She was a faithful member of the White Cross for over 35 years, a 16 year member of the Missions Board, and also taught an Adult Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcia Hill of Ashville, NC; Ruth Kennedy of Fairfield, CT; and a brother, Henry Hinz Jr., of Rochester, NY. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 19, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Jamestown. The Rev. Michael Childs, pastor, will officiate. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jamestown, 358 E. Fifth St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
