Obituary of Gust T. Constantine

Gust T. Constantine Gust Thomas Constantine, 94, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Jamestown, NY passed away Thursday (May 24, 2012) in the Valley Hospital Medical Center, Las Vegas. A resident of Long Beach, CA for most of his life, he was born April 24, 1918 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Thomas and Chrisula Zdrulli Constantine. He entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served from 1936 -1944 and was discharged as a Pharmacist's Mate First Class during World War II. He saw combat during the battles of Guadalcanal and New Georgia, being attached to the Marine Corp as a field medic and also in charge of releasing injured marines and sending them back to the United States. For the last two years of his service he was part of Admiral "Bull' Hosley's staff, the man in charge of the pacific fleet during World War II. As a testament to his values and character is the fact that in 1979 at the age of 61, and already a successful businessman, got his high school diploma from San Pedro High School in California. Before retiring to Las Vegas, he was a business owner in Long Beach, CA. and also served as a steward on the cruise ship "Matsonia" for several years. During his retirement years he loved to play tennis and travel. Surviving are a brother Terry Constantine of Frewsburg, NY, two sisters Loretta (Ted) Searls of Glendora, CA, Virginia Cummings of Jamestown, NY, his caregiver and loving friend for many years Dimitrios Kladouchos of Las Vegas and also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Christ, Nicholas and William Constantine and a sister Marie Leake. The funeral will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. George Zervos, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be led by Rev. Zervos at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.
