Obituary of Ruth E. Rogerson

Ruth E. Rogerson, 90, of 3100 West Oak Hill Road, died Friday June 1, 2012, in her home. A lifelong Jamestown resident, she was born May 17, 1922, a daughter of the late Walter and Jessie Swallow Chiverton. She was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School. In earlier years she was employed by Marlin Rockwell Corporation, Dr. F. McCulla and Lockwood's Department Store. She was a member of Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ and trustee and volunteer for the Fluvanna Free Library. She was very active in Girl Scouts and the PTA. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, baking and traveling which included yearly trips to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Forest and camping at Algonquin Park in northern Canada. She was an extrememly loving and kind person who lived her faith and thought of others first. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are two daughters Cynthia Rogerson and Sally (Donald) Teater, both of Jamestown and a granddaughter Christina (Ryan) Parks of Jamestown. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Alvin Rogerson, whom she married September 26, 1942 and who died January 6, 2008; a sister Jean Gunnarson; an infant brother Walter Chiverton and a great-granddaughter Charlotte Elizabeth Parks. A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Dana Douglas will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fluvanna Free Library or Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ.
