Obituary of Josephine Gullotti

Josephine Gullotti, 92, of 41 City View Ave., formerly of 131 Fulton St., died at 1:38 a.m. Thursday (July 12, 2012) in her home surrounded by her family. She was born January 21, 1920 in Tortorici, Sicily, the daughter of Guiessippi and Carmela Paterniti Trusso. She was the widow of Samuel Gullotti whom she married July 7, 1947 in Tortorici and who died July 24, 2010. In 1949, she and her husband came to New York City where they lived and worked, also living in Baltimore for a short time prior to coming to Jamestown in 1950. Josephine worked at Fashion Tailor and National Worsted Mills. In 1955, her husband opened his own tailor shop on Winsor St., relocating in 1962 to 800 East Second St. where she worked as a seamstress with her husband for 25 years until her retirement in 1991. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Since the age of 18, she has been a devoted member of the Catholic Sorority called, "L'Ora Di Guardia", which prays to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the first Sunday of each month for the salvation of souls. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, and crocheting blankets. Surviving are two daughters, Millie (Don) Ball and Josie (Andy) Monfort; four grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Jensen; Michael (Jamie) Bower; Ally and Harrison Monfort; five great grandchildren, Stuart and Jillian Jensen; Myla, Bryce, and Ellyse Bower. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rose Gullotti Bower in 1995; three sisters, Carmela Iuculano, Maria Parasiliti, and Diane Iuculano; and two brothers, Nino and Carmelo Trusso. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Sunday. The family would like to express their thanks to Josephine's care givers, Angel Rodriquez and Cindy Penhollow, and members of the Hospice team.
