Obituary of Frances R. Ayling

Frances R. Ayling, 99, of 403 Cole Avenue, Jamestown died peacefully at home on Sunday afternoon, July 29th. She was born on June 8, 1913 in Jamestown, the daughter of Frankie (Wilcox) and Hugh Rudgers. She grew up in Niobe, NY, attended the Ransom District Grade School and graduated from Lakewood High School in 1931. She married Paul Ayling November 8, 1932, and they enjoyed almost 60 years together before his death on August 30, 1992. Mrs. Ayling was employed at Lerners and Olga's Town and Country for several years. She then worked for Blackstone until she retired. She has been an active member of the Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ for many years. She was also a lifelong member of the Rebekah Lodge, a member of the local chapter of DAR and was very active in many senior volunteer organizations. Frances is survived by two children, Sandra Rothra (Don) of Golden Valley, Arizona and James Ayling (Maggie) of Stephentown, New York. She also leaves six grandchildren, Cyndi Oakes (Al) of Ellington; John Swiderski, Jr. (Sue) and Robert Swiderski (Kim), both of Jamestown; Ronni Jones (Bill) of Stephentown, NY; Barbara Schafer (Rob) of East Nassau, NY and Jimmer Ayling of Jamestown; four step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Her only sister, Elizabeth Faulkner, passed away many years ago. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dana Douglas, pastor of Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for one hour prior to the service Friday in the funeral home. The family asks that donations may be made to the NE Blind Association, the Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ, or Hospice of Chautauqua County.
