Obituary of Luther J. Sherman

Luther James Sherman, 88, of Ashville, NY went home peacefully to be with the Lord Thursday August 2, 2012. He was born March 4, 1924 in North Collins, NY the son of the late James Luther and Eva Lena Adams Sherman. Luther was a 1943 graduate of Lakewood High School and from 1943 until 1946 served in the US Army Air Corp. Prior to retirement, he worked at Cummins Engine and previously at Dahlstrom Mfg. and Art Metal. He was a member of the Jamestown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church where he faithfully served as church treasurer and was an Elder for many years. Luther enjoyed gardening and reading. Surviving are his wife, Jeane Russell Sherman; two sons, David (Suzanne) Sherman of Moon Twp, PA; Robert (Pamela) Sherman of Ellicott City, MD; four grandchildren, Eric and Chris Sherman of Oakdale, PA; Brian and Michelle Sherman of Moon Twp, PA; and a step sister, Alberta Webster of Falconer, NY. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved first wife Joyce Mooney Sherman; a son, Steven Sherman; and two brothers, Stanley C. and LaVern Sherman. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Jamestown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. The Rev. H. Wayne Eppehimer, pastor, will officiate. Burial with full military honors will take place at 2 p.m. Monday in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service Monday in the church.
