Obituary of Sherman D. Sloan

Sherman D. Sloan, 73, of 29 High Acres Drive, Bemus Point, died Monday August 27, 2012, in his home. A native of Dunkirk, he was born December 24, 1938, a son of the late Wallace Sloan and Viola Cady Sloan Fields. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps serving from 1956-59. He had worked for various companies throughout his career including Ring Punch and Die, Roy Holcomb, Norgas and most recently as maintenance director at Greenhurst Health Care and later Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. He was also a New York State certified Water System Operator for High Acres and Greenhurst Village Mobile Home Parks. In the 1970s he coached baseball in Sinclairville and was also a Cub Scout leader. He was an active member of Charlotte Center United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Cruisers Car Club where his 1940 Dodge Business Coupe had won several awards. He was a life member of AMVETS. He had a passion for sports and was an avid fan of NASCAR, the New York Yankees and Mets, and Buffalo Sabres and Bills. He enjoyed camping with his wife. Surviving are his wife the former Virginia "Ginnie" Johnson, whom he married March 31, 1989; two sons Sherman (Londi) Sloan of Marshville, NC and Scott Sloan of Marion, SC; a grandson Dylan Sherman Sloan of Marshville; two stepchildren Dr. Kevin (Linda) Scott of Colorado Springs, CO and Sandra (Jamie) Carlson of Bemus Point; a brother Howard (Rose) Sloan of North Palm Beach, FL and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Marcia Sloan Hilla. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
