Obituary of Virginia S Laumer

Virginia "Ginny" S. Hartley Laumer, passed away Tuesday September 11, 2012 in Fishers, IN. She was born April 7, 1927 in Buffalo, NY to Leslie and Alfretta Graves Stetson. Ginny graduated from Kenmore High School in 1945, attended Denison University, and graduated from Fredonia State University in 1970. Ginny met her future husband, George Hartley at Denison University and were married for 30 years before his passing. She later married the late John Laumer, formerly of Buffalo, NY and Birmingham, AL in 1980. Virginia lived in Lakewood, NY for 50 years before moving to Fishers, IN to be close with her family after a stroke in 2008. Mrs. Laumer leaves behind a son Jim Hartley and her daughter in-law, Allie Hartley of Fishers, IN; also 3 grandchildren, Matthew Hartley and his wife Sarah of Elmira, NY, Todd Hartley, and Kristian Scolnik of Fishers, IN. "Nana Ginny" was also blessed to see the arrival of 3 great grandchildren, Ava Korkzan and Ella Scolnik, both of Fishers, IN and a great grandson, Isaac Hartley of Elmira, NY. Ginny also leaves 5 step grandchildren: Jeffery, Kyle, and Zachary Laumer, Ashleigh Hartley, and JR Burns. Additionally, she leaves behind a cousin, Dorothy Stetson of Brunswick, ME, three nieces, Ginny Fox and her husband Steve of Augusta, GA, Sandy Rogers and her husband Ted of Canon, GA, Nancy Roughead of Ft. Myers, FL and two nephews, Scott Rogers of Harrison, NY and his wife Gail and son Dan, and Bryan Butler of Ft. Myers FL, and his wife Charlotte and son Ben. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Rogers, of Venice FL, a cousin, Irving Stetson of Brunswick, ME, and a nephew Stetson Rogers of Portland, OR. After staying home to raise her son, Ginny went back at 41 to become a school teacher. She spent 12 wonderful years teaching 2nd grade at Sherman Schools in New York. Her parents and family were from Brunswick, ME and enjoyed returning back each summer to beautiful Mere Point overlooking Casco Bay. Mrs. Laumer enjoyed many trips with her husband John to Alaska and all over the USA for his annual Army Airborne Reunions. She also traveled throughout the West with sister Barb, and later with friends to England, Austria, Italy and throughout Europe. Virginia was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown, NY. She was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, Lakewood Women's Club, and Golden Agers. Friends and family are welcome at the Lind Funeral Home in Jamestown from 10am to noon Monday, September 17th, and services will follow at Bellinger Chapel at First Presbyterian Church at 1:30 with a reception to follow in Fellowship Hall. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, First Presbyterian Church 509 Prendergast Ave. Jamestown, NY 14701; or a charity of your personal choice.
