Obituary of Peter J. Scheira

Peter J. Scheira, 93, of 50 Willow Ave., died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was born in Jamestown on October 16, 1918, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Cusimano Scheira, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1937. Peter served as a staff sergeant in the US Army's 27th Infantry Division Reconnaissance Troop during World War II with duty in the Pacific Theatre. In earlier years he was employed by Maddox Table and for 29 years by Marlin Rockwell/TRW, retiring as manufacturing supervisor in 1981. He was a member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion and former member of the Falconer Rod & Gun Club. Peter's greatest joy was taking his entire family on vacation and traveling with his late wife, Mary. He also enjoyed horse shoes and bowling, was an avid reader, and loved the game of golf. He is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Kutschke (Baldur) and a son, Peter R. Scheira (June), both of Jamestown; six grandchildren: Steven Rossi (Anne) of Newport News, VA, and Rochelle Mole (Henry), Scott M. Scheira, Jeanne C. Anderson (Kurt), Peter M. Scheira and Julie E. Scheira, all of Jamestown; and three great-grandchildren, Rachel and Rosemarie Mole of Jamestown, and Tyler Rossi of Newport News. Peter was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ferino Scheira, whom he married May 18, 1944 and who died October 18, 2005; a brother, Sam Scheira; and three sisters, Josephine Robinault, Sarah Cusimano and Anne Gaeta. A private family service will be held. Deacon Michael Lennon will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
