Obituary of Rune L. Johnson

Rune L. Johnson, 86, of Jamestown, NY, passed away on Thursday (November 1, 2012) in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. A lifelong area resident he was born March 8, 1926 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Leonard and Agda Ohlson Johnson. He was a graduate of the former Lakewood High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from August 21, 1944 to July 28, 1945 during World War II in Germany. During his tour of duty he received the Purple Heart and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Medal with two bronze stars. Before his retirement he was the Superintendent of Building and Grounds for the Southwestern Central School System for many years. In earlier years he was employed by the former Art Metal, Inc. until it's closing in 1971. He was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church serving on the Church Council for several terms. He was also a member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Celoron, the Busti Fire Department, the Mt. Moriah Lodge 145 Free and Accepted Mason's, the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Rune was a former member of the Southwestern Central School Board of Education where he served a term as President of the school board. Surviving are his wife of 64 years the former Allene Wilcox whom he married October 6, 1948, a son Randy (Cathryn) Johnson of Monroe, CT, a daughter Karen (Dennis) Lindemoen of Mpls. MN, two granddaughters Jennifer (Michael) Parsell, Tricia (Robert) Pagel, four great grandchildren Augusta and Briggs Parsell, Lucy and Lila Pagel all of Monroe, CT, three step-great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Isaac and Carter Hughes all of Plymouth, MN, and his sister Ruth M. Johnson of Jamestown, NY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Chester L. Johnson. The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Adam Miller-Stubbendick, pastor of the Bethel Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
