Obituary of Naomi J. Nord

Naomi J. Nord, a wonderful wife, mother, and sister, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday evening, November 21, 2012 after a prolonged illness, during which she always cooperated with care, and never offered a word of complaint. "Omi," as she was known by all, was born in Buffalo on February 26, 1927 to Hugo and Bertha Wagner. She attended grade school at the Buffalo Seventh Day Adventist Church School, then graduated from Union Springs Academy (Union Springs, NY) in 1944. While there, she met her husband, Dennis R. Nord of Jamestown, who survives. She attended Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, for secretarial studies, then married Dennis in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Buffalo in 1950. After moving to Jamestown three years later, she did secretarial work for Pearl City Plywood; Dr. Robert Knipple, DDS; the Methodist Church; and Travelers Insurance. Along with her husband, she was a very active member of the Jamestown Seventh Day Adventist Church, for which she served as treasurer for 27 years. Omi loved music, and served as church organist. She also sang for several years with the Sweet Adelines/Chautauqua Shores Chorus. She is survived, and greatly missed by Dennis, her husband of 62 years. Also surviving are her son Jim Nord (Debbie) of Sonora, CA, and daughter Linda Ulrich (Joe) of Lander, PA. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Natalie Nord and Kevin Nord. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Hamberger of Chico, CA, and cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families. She is also survived by her kitty "Pudie," who slept by her side the last weeks of her life. Naomi is now, herself, "sleeping," and awaiting the coming of Jesus to take her home with Him (I Thess. 4:16-18). Her favorite color to wear was a pastel baby blue, which made her eyes shine brightly. She liked to complete jigsaw puzzles, knit, and study her Bible daily. All through her life, she was methodical and accurate. She made a remarkable accomplishment at age 65, when she learned to swim, thereby overcoming her fear of water. Throughout her life, Naomi never said an unkind word about anyone. What a legacy to remember her by! Viewing for Omi will be at the Lind Funeral Home at 805 W. 3rd St. in Jamestown on Wednesday, November 28 from 2 to 4 PM, and from 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be provided by Pastor William McNeil of the Jamestown Seventh Day Adventist Church on Thursday, November 29, at 11 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial in her name can do so through the Jamestown Seventh Day Adventist Church, or to Hospice of Chautauqua County.
