Obituary of Marian A. Palmer

Marian A. Palmer, 94, formerly of 1707 Blockville-Watts Flats Road, Ashville, died Wednesday January 2, 2013, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born February 15, 1918, in Jamestown, a daughter of J. Alfred and Ellen Anderson Nelson. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and later Fredonia College. She had been employed by Falconer Central School as a kindergarten teacher. She earlier had worked for schools in Mayville, Ashville and Panama. She was a member of Blockville United Methodist Church, Retired Teacher Association and Harmony Quilters. Marian was a loving, caring mother and grandmother who cherished family time. In retirement, she enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, and quilting. She made quilts for all her children and grandchildren, finishing them in her 80's. Surviving are 5 children William (Deborah) Palmer of Blockville, Jane (Robert) Geertson of Jamestown, Nancy (Kevin) Krystofik of Auburn, NY, Christopher (Susan) Palmer of Ganesvoort, NY and Julie Hall of Ashville; 7 grandchildren Megan Geertson, Andrew and Grant Krystofik, Matthew and Jonathan Palmer, and Wesley and Bethany Hall and a great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her first husband Albert Palmer, whom she married November 23, 1944 and who died January 25, 1989, her second husband Merrille Cook, whom she married February 4, 1991 and who died February 29, 1992; 2 brothers Arvid and Harold Nelson and a sister Margaret Nelson. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Carolyn Stow will officiate. Burial will be in Blockville Union Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home.
