Obituary of Thomas T. Traver

Thomas Townsend Traver, 76, of 85 Barker St, Jamestown passed away at 3:50 p.m. Monday (January 7, 2012) in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident he was born September 29, 1936 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Garfield C. and Dorothy M. Swanson Traver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from August 16, 1954 to August 1, 1957. He served as an Army medic and paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. Before his disability due to ill health, he was employed as a truck driver for the Lyons Transportation Lines for several years and also worked for Keith Trucking. He also worked as a carpenter and will be remembered as a very skilled handyman who could build anything. He was a proud veteran and was a member of the National American Legion and the Blinded Veterans Association. Surviving are his children Shelly Traver, Thomas Traver both of Jamestown, Janeane Varos of Mayville, 18 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and his brother Philip ( Janet) Traver of NC as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Theresa Roberts, a grandson Charles Edstrom and a brother Daniel Traver. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced by the family. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Blind Association, 510 West Fifth St. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to a charity of one's choice.
