Obituary of Jean C. Larson

Jean Clemenger Larson, 98, of 45 Lovall Ave. Jamestown, died Monday January 28, 2013 in WCA Hospital. A Jamestown area resident since the age of 5, she was born January 16, 1915 in Kane, PA the daughter of the late William Earl and Edith Mayers Clemenger. She was a 1933 graduate of Jamestown High School and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years. Jean worked as a manager of a small neighborhood grocery store at 100 Hedges Ave until its closing. She then worked at various Quality Markets stores until 1975. She was active in Girl Scouting, serving on the Council, and had a Brownie Troop at the Falconer St. Elementary School for several years. Jean enjoyed playing bridge, and belonged to 2 different bridge clubs for over 50 years. Surviving are two daughters, Connie (William) Wright and Carol Sorg, both of Jamestown; four grandchildren, Susan W. (Gregory) Carlson of Avon, NY; William L. (Colleen) Wright Jr. of Jamestown; Stephen J. (Debra) Wright of Lakewood, NY; Daniel J. Sorg of Concord, OH; eight great grandchildren, Geoffrey Carlson of Rochester, NY; Brenton Carlson of Avon, NY; Kendall and Megan Wright of Bemus Point, NY; Elizabeth Wright of Jamestown, NY; Kasey James Sorg of Concord, OH; Jeffrey (Kate) Wright of Boston, MA; Gregory Wright of Erie, PA; two step grandchildren, Stephen B. Sorg of Jamestown, NY; Julie A. Culhane of Bemus Point, NY; five step great grandchildren, Zachary Swan of Rochester, NY; Jacob Swan of Lakewood, NY; Brendan (Carolyn) Sorg of Independence, OH; Stephanie (Jason) Labovitz of Cleveland, OH; and Robert Sorg of Jamestown, NY. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur R. Larson who died July 25, 2003 just a month after they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary; a sister, Audrey Bollier; and a son in law, James Sorg. Jean was able to stay in her home thanks to the help of caregivers, Diane Nazario, Betty Miller, Cindy Penhollow, Patrice Heath, and her devoted neighbors, Bonny and Larry John. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 556 E. Second St., Jamestown, NY 14701; or to a charity of one's choice.
