Obituary of Florence T. Johnson Cornell

Florence Clara Johnson-Cornell, 92, of Columbus, formerly of Jamestown, NY, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Four Seasons Health Care Center. Born in Ashville, NY, Sept. 21, 1920, Mrs. Johnson-Cornell was the daughter of the late Elmer L. and Minnie D. Hallberg Ticknor. She was a 1938 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1994 graduate of Jamestown Community College. Mrs. Johnson-Cornell worked as an executive secretary at Art Metal Construction Co., Marlin-Rockwell Corp., Sylvania de Puerto Rico, and the Scottish Rite Temple. She was also a court reporter for the Town of North Harmony in New York. She was a member of Diana Lodge No. 114 I.O.V, Thule Lodge No. 127 Vasa Order of America, and Order of Eastern Star/Acanthus Chapter No. 127, Mayville, NY, was a former member of the Scottish Rite Auxiliary, Jamestown Shrine Club Auxiliary, Marvin Community House, Retirees of Jamestown Business and Professional Women's Club Inc., North Harmony Senior Citizens and the WCA Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a member of Columbus Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Johnson-Cornell attended Sandy Hook United Methodist Church in Columbus and was a member of Hurlbut Memorial Church in Chautauqua, New York. She enjoyed spending time with her family, attending her grandchildren's soccer, basketball, cross country, track and musical events, traveling, bowling, golf, reading, playing cards and participating in the Red Hat Society. She is survived by a daughter, Sally (Craig) Schneckenberger, Columbus, IN; and grandchildren, Bradley A. (fiance Brianne Steppe) Schneckenberger, Franklin, IN Ashleigh M. and Kimberly F. Schneckenberger, both of Columbus. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Alton B. Johnson, whom she married June 28, 1941 and who died November 29, 1985, her second husband Robert G. Cornell, whom she married April 15, 1989 and who died September 17, 2001; an infant sister, Helen Ticknor; and brothers, Leonard and Norman Ticknor. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Friends will be received from 9:30-11a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
