Obituary of Sandra K. Woodard

Sandra K. "Sandy" Woodard, 65, of Lakewood, NY went to be with the Lord peacefully in her sleep on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was born in Jamestown on July 30, 1947, a daughter of Verla Jean Daley Cornell and the late Gerald R. Cornell, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1965. Sandy was a kind and loving person and as long as she was able continued to be an extension of God's love to those around her, always having a beautiful smile and a kind word. Sandy would want all those who knew and loved her to know that she is now completely healed, is happy and at peace, and is finally with her son, Alan Woodard, whom she missed terribly and who died in 1994. In addition to her mother, Verla Jean, Sandy is survived by her companion, Wesley Sly, with whom she shared her life for many years; her loving children, Wendy (Bill) Hess and Richard (Jane) Martin; five grandchildren: Tj (Nichole) Hess, Stephanie Hess (and baby to be born soon), Samantha Hess, Michael Woodard and Douglas Woodard; three sisters: Linda (Virgil) Martin, Beverly (Jeff) Johnson and Cynthia (Bob) Hasson; two brothers: Gary (Sue) Cornell and Dennis (Sandy) Cornell; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Sandy enjoyed and took great pleasure in the little things in life like feeding her adoptive duckies whom she loved to watch grow up on the lake, her dear little kittie, "Toni" who was like a little girl to her, and watching many beautiful sunsets at the end of the day. All of these things gave her great pleasure. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at the Victory Tabernacle, 501 West Third St. in Jamestown. The Rev. William Crosby will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.
