Obituary of Hans J. Block

Hans J. Block, 87, of 380 Hall Rd. Jamestown, NY passed away at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday (February 13, 2013) in W.C.A. Hospital. He was born August 11, 1925 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Adolf and Else Giessler Block. In 1933, he moved from the United States to Germany with his parents, living on a farm near the Baltic Sea. From 1943 to 1945 had served in the German Army. He returned to Jamestown in 1948 and worked for the Gustavus Adolphus Childrens Home and was then drafted in to the United States Army where he served from 1948 to 1949. In 1950 he purchased a small farm which he developed into the Twin State Farms in Lander, PA. From 1961 to 1971 he raised and sold beef cattle and from 1971 to his retirement in 1998 had operated the farm as a dairy farm. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and other farming organizations in New York and Pennsylvania. Surviving are two daughters Heidi Block and Winnie Przybelinski both of Jamestown, NY, a son H. Peter Block of Lander, PA, a grandson Timothy Przybelinski of Jamestown, NY, his twin sister Inge Koerner of Germany and also surviving is the mother of his children Gertrud Block of Jamestown, NY. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Marcus Briggs will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster Cemetery, Lander, PA. Friends will be received from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Southern Tier Kidney Association, P.O. Box 834, Jamestown, NY 14702-0834.
