Obituary of Eugene E. Erb

Eugene E. Erb, formerly of Lakewood and Panama, died Sunday March 24, 2013, in the Brightonian Nursing Home, Rochester, NY. He was born April 6, 1915, in Wellsville, NY, a son of Eugene F. and Florence Tracy Erb. He graduated from Mayville High School in 1933, Fredonia Normal School in 1938, earned a bachelor's degree from Buffalo State University in 1941 and a master's degree from St. Bonaventure University in 1961. He also earned a physical education teaching certification from Cortland State University. As a teacher he worked for various school districts including Panama, Lakewood, Clymer and Southwestern. He served as principal for Barker Central School System and vice principal in Panama. In addition, he coached baseball and basketball at Clymer, Panama and Southwestern. He retired in 1970. He was a member of the Panama Baptist Church where he had been a deacon, trustee, treasurer and member of the senior church groups. His other memberships included Odd Fellows, Summerset Masonic Lodge in Barker, NY, Sons of the American Revolution and the Fenton, Busti and Chautauqua County Historical Societies. He was a life member of the Harmony Historical Society. Surviving are 2 children Kathleen (Charles) Trowbridge of Pittsford, NY and Roger (Jeanette) Erb of South Pasadena, FL; 3 grandchildren Kristine Budill of Larchmont, NY, Jamie Arnold of Anderson, SC and Laura Quitugua of Temple, TX and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Frances Graves, whom he married April 18, 1936 and who died May 21, 1999; 2 sisters Marian Baltz and Agnes Gillespy and 4 brothers Walter, John, Lawrence and Wesley "Phillip" Erb. No funeral service or visitation will be observed. Burial will be in Panama Union Cemetery.
