Obituary of June C. Sampson

June V. H. Carlson Sampson, 97, formerly of 261 Falconer St., Jamestown, died at 2:50 a.m. Friday (April 26, 2013) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born May 20, 1915 in Olean, NY the daughter of the late Carl J. and Hildur G. Stockenberg Carlson. June was a 1932 graduate of Jamestown High School and worked for 17 years at the former Field & Wright Co. as a Bookkeeper, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jamestown; and a former member of Ingjald Lodge #65 IOV, and the Diana Lodge #114. June was a woman of great strength, courage and, above all, unwavering love. She always served others first; herself last. Her generous spirit was a source of joy and inspiration for everyone she knew. A talented artist, June created paintings and ceramic works that will be treasured by her family for many generations to come. She also was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. Of Swedish heritage, she passed along those traditions to her children and grandchildren. Her Swedish cooking, especially her baked beans, were always the highlight of family gatherings. June was an extraordinary woman and will be deeply missed by her family, friends and caregivers. Surviving are a daughter, Susan J. Sampson of Bemus Point, NY; a granddaughter, Kirstin L. (husband James) Brown of Franklinville, NY; two grandsons, W. Jon Quinlan of Ventura, CA; David L. (wife Melissa Ford) Sampson of Washington Crossing, PA; four great grandchildren, Kyle F. Sampson and Genevieve F. Sampson, both of Washington Crossing, PA; Kelsey L. Brown and Shannon L. Brown, both of Franklinville, NY; a cousin, Lois Y. Jordan of Erie, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold B. Sampson whom she married October 15, 1938 in Jamestown and who died September 23, 1992; a son, Jon A. Sampson of Jamestown; a daughter, Karen L. Quinlan of Olean; and a daughter in law, Yun Hui "Kim" Sampson of Jamestown. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701; or the Prendergast Library 509 Cherry St., Jamestown, NY 14701; or to a charity of choice.
