Obituary of Richard C. Dornhofer

Richard C. "Dick" Dornhofer, 90, of 1733 Park Meadow Drive, passed away at 9:57 a.m. Tuesday (May 14, 2013) in his home. An area resident for the past 21 years, he was born September 16, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY a son of the late Richard and Katherine Hughes Dornhofer. Before his retirement he was employed as an engineer for the New York Telephone Company where he worked for 36 years, spending his working career in the Long Island, NY area. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1942-1946 during World War II. He was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood where he served as an usher for several years. He was also a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers. He will remembered as a loving and caring father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He also had a keen interest in cars, loved fishing, gardening and took great pride in taking care of his home and yard. Surviving are two daughters; Diane (Alan) Atcheson of Jamestown, Elizabeth "Beth" Dornhofer of New York City, two sons; Richard "Rick" Dornhofer of Bolinas, CA, Thomas Dornhofer of Jamestown, six grandchildren; Robert S. Dornhofer of Costa Rica, Luke Dornhofer of CA, Lea Dornhofer of GA, Paul T. Dornhofer of East Hampton, NY, Elizabeth (Sean) Jones, Victoria Atcheson both of Jamestown, six great grandchildren; Karolina Dornhofer, Koan Dornhofer, Cyrus Jones, Sage Jones, Ryder Eaton-Dornhofer, Remy Eaton-Dornhofer and a brother James (Margaret) Dornhofer of FL. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Victoria "Dixie" Massingill Dornhofer who died August 13, 1992. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph M. Dowdell, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY 14750.
