Obituary of Elsie Trott Sawyer

Elsie Trott Sawyer, 91, formerly of Bradford, PA and Brookside Estates, went home to be with her Savior Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the Lutheran Retirement Home, Jamestown. She was surrounded by her loving family and dear friend Linda Paterniti. She was born in Austria Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada, on September 3, 1921, a daughter of the late Edward and Edith Bowser Trott. She grew up in Port Mouton, Nova Scotia, graduated from high school there in 1939, and furthered her education by graduating from Miss Darling's Secretarial School in Cambridge, MA. Prior to her retirement in 1983, she was employed by Zippo Manufacturing Company, Bradford for 25 years. She was a member of Levant Wesleyan Church and participated in Best Years Fellowship and Prayer Ministry. While living in the Bradford area she was a member of Bradford Hill Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church and later Sawyer Evangelical Church of North America, teaching Sunday school at both churches for a total of 35 years. She was also active in their missionary groups. Those who knew and met her will remember a great prayer warrior with a desire to share her faith and love for her Savior. She was always willing to host visiting missionaries. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed traveling. She traveled to Italy, Israel and took several cruises. Surviving are 2 daughters, Lois (Jerry) McConnell of West Ellicott, and Kathy (Thomas) Dublinski of Lockport; 2 sons, Edward Sawyer of Orlando, FL, and Tom (Kathy) Sawyer of Taylors, SC; 10 grandchildren Sherri Goodwill, Todd McConnell, Charlene McCartney, Thomas Sawyer II, Jeff Farr, Tim Farr, Rhonda Roberts, Denise Sawyer, Edward Sawyer and Clinton Sawyer; 16 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George B. Sawyer, whom she married June 15, 1944 and who died October 28, 1987; a daughter Judith Sawyer January 1955; 2 sisters Ada Chappel and Margaret Burgess and 2 brothers Burgess and Fred Trott. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt of The Lutheran will officiate, assisted by Rev. Dayle F. Keefer of Fluvanna Community Church. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Bradford. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday in the funeral home.
