Obituary of Margaret Sears Berenguer

Margaret Sears Berenguer, 95, a resident of Edgewood Communities, Carlson Tower, formerly of 1754 South Main Street Extension, died Saturday June 15, 2013, in her home. She was born June 9, 1918, in Akeley, PA, a daughter of the late Jefferson and Viola Crooks Sears. She was a 1935 graduate of Russell High School and a 1948 graduate of Edinboro State Teachers College where she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. Prior to her retirement in 1977, she was employed as an elementary teacher at Robert H. Jackson Elementary School in Frewsburg for 20 years. She earlier had taught in Clarendon and North Warren. She was a longtime active member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church which she joined in 1948. She had been a Sunday School teacher and chairperson of leadership teams. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority International and a member of New York State Teachers Association. She is survived by three daughters Linda (Larry) Delgado of Horseheads, NY, Suzanne (James) Miller of Mongomery, AL and Dr. Pamela Nordland of Jamestown and two sons Boyd (Carol) Nordland of Cape Coral, FL and John (Susan) Berenguer, Jr of Jamestown; a sister Alberta (Kenneth) Gill of Olmsted Falls, OH; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Franklin Nordland, whom she married August 24, 1945 and who died May 24, 1967, her second husband John Berenguer, whom she married April 3, 1969 and who died December 5, 1997 and a brother Lewis Sears in 1999. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 29, 2013 in Christ Chapel on the Lutheran campus. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, PA. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in Christ Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, 385 South Main Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
