Obituary of Marshall G. Bloomstran

Marshall G. Bloomstran, 91, of 37 Liberty St., Bemus Point, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 in his home. A lifelong area resident, he was born in Jamestown October 17, 1921, a son of the late Hilmer and Esther Carlson Bloomstran. He was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School and following military duty, graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business College in 1948. Marshall served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II and was discharged as a 1st Sergeant of the 101st Field Artillery Battalion 26th Division. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star. Marshall was employed for 34 years by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., retiring as Store Manager from the Lakewood store in 1981. He was then employed by CMK Auto Parts for 18 years, retiring in 1999. A member of Christ Lutheran Church in Greenhurst, he also belonged to the Bemus Point VFW Post 557, Vikings Lodge #65 and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He was a former member of the Jamestown Harmony Express Barbershop Chorus. Marshall is survived by his wife of 64 years, Naomi Galloway Bloomstran whom he married June 11, 1949; two daughters, Patty Clary of Hudson, OH and Debby Powell of Evergreen, CO; two grandchildren, Brian Clary and Hannah Powell; and a great-grandson, Mason Clary. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Harland Bloomstran. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29th in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Lee Magnuson will officiate. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to Bemus Point Fire & Emergency Services, Bemus Point, NY 14712; or to Christ Lutheran Church, Greenhurst, NY 14742.
