Obituary of Vincent A. Messina

Vincent A. Messina, 64, of 103 Sturges St., Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday (July 18, 2013) in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. A lifelong area resident he was born April 4, 1949 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Carl A. and Sara Roselle Messina. Vince was a 1967 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a member of the very first graduating class from the W.C.A. Hospital School of Radiologic Technology. In earlier years he was a Senior Radiologic Technologist at the Tri-County Hospital in Gowanda. He also served in the New York Army National Guard for several years. Before his retirement this past May, he was employed by W.C.A. Hospital for 34 years retiring as Senior Radiologic Technologist and head of the CT Scan and Special Procedures Department. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church where he served on the parish council in past years. He was also a member of the Conewango Valley Country Club, Warren, PA, serving on the Board of Directors, the War Vets Recreation Club and a former member of the Gowanda Rotary Club and formerly served on the Board of Directors at South Hills Country Club. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and "papa". He loved spending time with his family, going on family vacations and enjoyed his many trips to the Caribbean. His greatest passion, aside from his professional career, was the game of golf. He took great pride in his accomplishments and the awards he received in many golf tournaments, especially achieving a hole in one at South Hills Country Club. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former Kathleen Raineir whom he married March 20, 1971, two sons; Andrew C. (Michelle) Messina of Concord, OH, Martin V. (Lori) Messina of Lakewood, NY, three grandchildren; Anthony M. Messina, Sophia Marie Messina both of Concord, Lucy K. Messina of Lakewood and his brother Carl R. Messina of Jamestown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the W.C.A.
