Obituary of Don Roger Carvella

Don R. Carvella, 61, of Jamestown, died Wednesday July 24, 2013, in Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Institute, Buffalo, surrounded by family after a courageous two year battle with cancer. A native of Jamestown, he was born September 2, 1951, a son of the late Dominic and Rita Cataldo Carvella. He was a 1969 graduate of Jamestown High School and was employed by RHI Monofrax in the maintenance department, retiring in2013 after 44 years of work. He was a communicant of Sacred heart Catholic Church and a member of many area organizations such as Jamestown Moose Lodge, Samuel L. Derby Post American Legion, Frewsburg and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed dancing and participated with the Italian Dancers and Starlight Ballroom Dancers. He also enjoyed country line dancing, traveling and gardening. His biggest love was for his two grand-daughters who he treasured in his heart at all times. Don had a gracious and humble heart that served and befriended many individuals. He also had a unique personality that made him one of a kind and a joy to be around. He was a priceless gift in terms of being a dad, a poppy, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Surviving are 3 children Shane (Sara) Carvella of Petal, MS, Beth (Greg) Chase of Jamestown and Nicholas Carvella of LaGrange, KY; two grandchildren Phoenix "Phenny" Carvella of LaGrange, KY and Korbin "Blonde Bomber" Chase of Jamestown; his first wife Betty Carvella of Westfield; his companion of 17 years Katrina Robbins with whom he made his home; two brothers Anthony (Roe) Carvella and Gary (Sue) Carvella; two sisters Darlene Geaben and Bobbi Jean (Jerry) Stahl also survived by his Aunt Jan with whom he was very close along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Frank Geaben. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rev. Piotr Zaczynski will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.
