Obituary of Gloria K. Lasser

Gloria K. Lasser, 90, of 192 Aldren Ave., formerly of 261 Towner Ave., died Sunday, July 28, 2013 in her home. A woman of grace, keen mind and broad interests, she had a significant presence in many local area events and institutions. She served on the governing boards of Family Service, the YWCA, the Chautauqua Art Association, the Mozart Club, Fortnightly as a past president, the Town Club, and was on the initial board of the Weeks Gallery at Jamestown Community College. Gloria was also a regular volunteer assistant at the Robert H. Jackson Center. She was an elegant hostess, a superb chef and possessed instinctive good taste in dcor, dress and domestic life. An area resident since 1949, Gloria was born in Brooklyn on December 27, 1922, the daughter of the late Dr. Jack M. and Jean Zipern Kay. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School and attended Brooklyn College. She is survived by her husband, Miles L. Lasser, whom she married August 19, 1944; three children: Elizabeth Lasser of Chautauqua, NY, Andrew (Nancy) Lasser of Oakmont, Pa., and Adam Lasser of New Brunswick, NJ; and five grandchildren: Allison, Max and Will Lasser of Oakmont, and Jodi and Jamie Lasser of Gillette, NJ. She was preceded in death by a son, David Lasser who died in 1950. A Memorial Celebration of Gloria's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 16th at the Juliet J. Rosch Activities Center, 200 Aldren Ave. in Jamestown. Inurnment will be in Beth-El Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
