Obituary of Darwin B. Eckstrom Sr.

Darwin B. Eckstrom Sr., 82, of Creek Road Busti, went home to be with the Lord Sunday July 28, 2013. He was born February 3, 1931 in Jamestown the son of the late Edwin Eckstrom and Adina Tulen Eckstrom Garlow He was a graduate of Sugar Grove High School and attended Alfred Extension. Dar worked on the family farm with his parents and brother. Later, he worked at the Sugar Grove Farm Supply; owned and operated Eckstrom and Randall; was a salesman at Kafferlin Sales and Service; served as custodian at the Salvation Army; and worked at Valu Home Center. He was a member of the Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church, Salvation Army, and Jamestown Church of the Nazarene. Dar enjoyed teaching the adult Sunday School class. He was a former member and past president of the Southwestern Central School Board of Education. Dar was an avid student of history; he enjoyed woodworking, wood carving, and painting. There were always two pots of coffee and some good stories to be shared, especially at the daily 10 am and 2 pm coffee. His favorite times were those spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Joann Johnson Eckstrom whom he married in 1956; six children, Mary Jo Sanderson (Warren) of Cherry Creek; Timothy L. Eckstrom (Lisa) of West Ellicott; Lori Peterson (Scott) of New Hampshire; Lois Eckstrom (Dan Robbins) of Williamson, NY; Bill Eckstrom (Julie) of Ashville; Ida Elifritz (Jim) of Busti; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence E. Eckstrom; and his step father, Peter Garlow. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Busti Church of God. Rev. Donald V. Erickson, pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lind Funeral Home.
