Obituary of Sylvia J. Lucas

Sylvia J. Lucas, 87, of the Orchard Grove Residence at the Woodlands, Southwestern Drive, formerly of the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, Jamestown and Celoron, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday (July 30, 2013) in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident she was born October 13, 1925 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Arvid and Bodil M. Osterberg Engburg. She was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School and was very active in the planning of her class reunions. In earlier years she was employed by the former National Worsted Mills, the Credit Bureau of Jamestown and Crawford Furniture. She also worked for the former Jamestown Mutual Insurance Company for 25 years and retired from the Weber-Knapp Company. She was a longtime member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. She was also an active volunteer for W.C.A. Hospital for many years working in the snack shop and the dialysis unit. Surviving are two sons; Donald V. (Laurel) Lucas, Jr. of Jamestown, Gary R. (Pam) Lucas of Falconer, NY, a daughter Shirley Lucas of Jamestown, five grandchildren; Renee (Dale) Hansen of Kaysville, UT, Kristina Lucas, Donnell (Andy) Conti both of Jamestown, Michael (Addie Albano) of North Tonawanda, NY, Jeremiah Lucas of Jamestown, ten great grandchildren; Travis, Erin, Sadie, Libby, Myck and Quinn Hansen, Taye Rice, Savion Knight, Claire Conti, Stella Lucas, two step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren and a sister Nancy Forsberg of Novi, MI. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Donald V. Lucas, Sr. whom she married December 29, 1944 and who died December 8, 1996, a grandson Paul Lucas and a step grandson Ben Torrey. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Hoyer, pastor of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Southern Tier Kidney Association, P.O.
